Seeking Volunteers for a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

The Town of East Longmeadow is establishing a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).  The CERT program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact our area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search & rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and an organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, which allows them to focus on more complex tasks.

More specifically East Longmeadow’s CERT would initially train & prepare to assist with the following:

•      National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) & the Incident Command System (ICS)

•      Regional disaster potential

•      Fire safety

•      First aid & CPR

•      Shelter operation & staffing

•      Assistance to regional Medical Reserve Corp

If you are interested in becoming a member of East Longmeadow’s CERT please send a letter of interest to Denise Menard, Town Manager, Town of East Longmeadow, 60 Center Square, East Longmeadow, MA  01028 or TownManager@eastlongmeadowma.gov
