Welcome to the Moderator's page! This page is intended to assist the voters in East Longmeadow in participating in the most "democratic" form of government in the United States -- the Town Meeting. Given the importance of Town Meeting, it's very important for the residents of East Longmeadow to know how Town Meeting works so that they can make informed decisions in the legislative process by which East Longmeadow is run.
Copies of a DVD called "Town Meeting and You", produced in 2007 by the Massachusetts Moderators Association, are available at the Library or watch it below. This half-hour video provides some history of Town Meetings in Massachusetts and explains such things as the warrant for a meeting, how motions are made or amended and other procedural guides. I hope to have it broadcast on ELCAT a week or two before each Town Meeting.
It is my intention to have a "Moderator's Presentation" on ELCAT prior to any Town Meeting, describing the articles included on the warrant and any procedure details relating to those articles. Any citizen who has questions about Town Meeting procedures is encouraged to contact me at home (525 1249), at my office (737 1131) or by email moderator@eastlongmeadowma.gov. Also, suggestions on how to improve this web page are also welcomed.
Also, a preview of the Town Meeting Warrant items can be accessed from the bottom of this page.
Non-voters will be seated in the gymnasium (voters can sit there, too); there will be full video and audio connections between the auditorium and the gym. Additional information regarding Town Meeting procedures is available at the "links" below.
Please come and exercise your right and privilege as a legislator!
