The mission of the East Longmeadow Fire Department is to protect lives, environment, and property by providing a fire safe community through preparedness, a coordinated public education program, inspection services, extensive firefighter training, and suppression and rescue services.

Our vision is to enhance and broaden the customer service and increase the quality of life of our residents by providing professional fire and rescue services, by meeting the needs of the community through responsive, innovative leadership.

Open Burning Rules and Regulations

  • The season begins on January 15, 2014 and ends on May 1, 2014.
  • East Longmeadow property owners who wish to burn must purchase an open burning permit at the East Longmeadow Fire Department, 150 Somers Road, EastLongmeadow,MA. 
  • The cost of the permits $5.00 and is good through May 1, 2014.
  • Permits can be purchased between Mondays through Friday during the hours of 8 AM to 4 PM. 
  • Permits will also be available on Saturdays beginning Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 9 AM to noon.
  • Permit holders must call the fire department each day they wish to burn. 
  • Those who wish to burn on the weekends must call on Fridays prior to March 15, 2014.
  • Beginning Saturday, March 15, 2014 those who wish to burn on the weekends must call on Saturdays from 9 AM to noon.
  • The only materials that is burnable under the regulation is brush, cane, driftwood, tree prunings, and fallen branches.
  • The burning of leaves, grass, lumber, logs, stumps is prohibited.
  • This permit is not for land clearing.
