Advertised the position in “Education Week”
MASC received (26) applications from(Massachusetts, the New England Area and outside New England. MASC screened the (26) applications and presented (12) applicants to the Screening Committee which was made up of 16 members. We did a full-week of interviews an hour with each applicant(10) in total,(13)questions. Last day we narrowed it down to (3) applicants; School Committee went on site-visits, and each applicant came here for a site-visit. Which brings us here tonight, last finalist interview. Thank you Pat!
William Fonseca thanked the Screening Committee as well as the administrators and Spoleto’s who supplied meals the week of interviews with (10)applicants.
Robert Mazzariello – in taking notes and listening to all (3) candidates, I found them to be excellent and qualified candidates. We need to pick the candidate, best fit for our community. Other candidates should feel proud, they made it this far.
Angela Thorpe – it was a pleasure to meet all (3) candidates, we need to pick the best for our students and community.
Daniel Manley – I saw strengths and weaknesses, mostly strengths in all three candidates, they are all qualified, and any one of them could be our superintendent.
Gregory Thompson – it was a very thorough process, site-visits insightful, seeing them on their own territory we saw what they are really like, what staff had to say. Any (3) of these candidates would be suitable for superintendent. The (2) candidates that do not get the position should be proud. This community is a welcoming community, we are very fortunate; we have a great staff and administration.
Angela Thorpe – we have great parents and kids.
Robert Mazzariello – tonight is my last night, I will be leaving. I love this district, and I do want the best for East Longmeadow. We have a fabulous faculty, staff and administration, people want to come here, and we need someone to drive us into the next future.
William Fonseca, at this time we will do a straw vote: unanimous vote for Gordon Smith to be next superintendent of schools.
