3. COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS
Joseph Cabrera–at the town meeting there was a question about bussing and I really do believe this needs to be addressed. I would like as quickly as possible, set up a sub-committee, there has been some communications with Angela, myself, Tracy Gamble and Terry Olejarz, trying to do something with their concerns that I believe need to be brought up sooner than later, as we have been looking at this for years and things haven’t been done. I as well as others have big concerns.
Angela Thorpe–since our last meeting, we’ve had a Massachusetts Association School Committee meeting. We also had a wonderful town meeting which was great, always some interesting dialogue happening there. We also had an Awards Night that I attended; we have some rally outstanding young people. The stage was so full, it’s always amazing to see the stage empty and then so full. It’s not just one award, some are getting two, three and four, it was really nice to see. Congratulations to all of them. I look forward to the next one.
Elizabeth Marsian-Boucher–I too enjoyed the Awards Night. Also, the first kids that I ever watched in my home daycare, got up on stage and I was like oh my gosh. I would like to mention, we really don’t have a lot to do with this, but June 1st is the deadline for the ELHS 50th Birthday Party for next year, so if you are interested, go on-line and look for the web-site. I do think it would support the HS; it could be a good time had by all.
Student Rep–a few big events coming up:the 1st is the men’s volleyball team match against Chicopee Comp, they are playing as we speak, and I would like to wish them luck. Graduation rehearsal for seniors will take place next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and on the 3rd, senior prom at the Log Cabin. June 6th is graduation at 2pm in the stadium, hoping for lots of sunshine. Guest speakers are Mr. Freccero, Class President; Mike Nardi, our valedictorian Marcella Maki, Jon Gregalis, myself, Tamera Sacharczyk, Seneca Martensson, Peter Gray and Corinne Sullivan. Very excited about graduation. I want to thank all of you very much for a phenomenal year for allowing me to sit on the committee with you and including Mr. Mazzariello and Mr. Manley, good luck to our new representative. Thank you again very much.
William Fonseca–I too attended the awards ceremony, a couple of weeks ago. A number of awards were given out to our very own Jennifer, who received a couple that night. Last night I attended the Middle School concert, very odd auditorium, great job by all who participated. Again kudos to Mr. Humason and Ms. Nimetz for a wonderful job this year.

last year was an acceptation to the raise

Ms. Fletcher stated to contact staff, it’s the (initial) of their first name, full last name at eastlongmeadowma.gov. Greg suggested adding this formula to the handbook. Ms. Thorpe suggested adding a heading to page 11 (if parent going away to supply school with contact info as well as dates, etc).

7.4 Policy ECAF-A, Video Surveillance Policy was presented for a first reading. Ms. Santaniello stated we did not have this policy, did work with Atty. Smith on this policy.
7.5 Ms. Olejarz, every year we put out bids as well as this year for Milk, Bread, Ice Cream and Paper, I am recommending that we reject the bids that have already gone out for next year and go with the new program. The HEC group is a collaborative bid, and it includes surrounding towns. Gregory Thompson did have a question about fresh produce (local farms) and asked Ms. Olejarz if at some point we could have a discussion on this. I as a parent would like to see fresh fruits.
Elizabeth Marsian-Boucher moved to reject the Milk, Bread, Ice Cream and Paper bids as presented tonight for reason given. Gregory Thompson seconded the motion and it was approved upon a roll-call vote as followed:
Yes Joseph Cabrera
Yes Elizabeth Marsian-Boucher

7.6 A request for an additional kindergarten classroom was presented. We have some good news; we have enough students signed up for the full-day kindergarten and to increase our classrooms (full-day) from five to six. The extra tuition would be enough to pay the majority of cost for a teacher, paraprofessional and some supplies. If we decide to have the extra classroom we need to notify parents on the waiting list for the full-day kindergarten program and allow Ms. Fletcher to post this position on Monday. Ms. Olejarz maybe we can have a discussion and revisit the tuition cost for future school years,
Elizabeth Marsian-Boucher moved to approve full-day kindergarten with the increase of one classroom at Meadow Brook School. Angela Thorpe seconded the motion and it was approved upon a roll-call vote as followed:
Yes Joseph Cabrera
