ZONING BOARD OF
APPEALS
TO THE SELECTMEN:
In 2004, the Zoning Board of
Appeals was presented with 7 petitions requesting zoning
variances, of which five were approved. The Board continues to meet whenever
necessary to serve the Town. It is the
desire of the Board to protect the property of the citizens of the Town and
diligently exercise the intent of the by-laws to meet the individual needs of
the community.
Variances are controlled by Chapter 40A and there are
statutory requirements that need to be met in order that a variance be
granted. It is a difficult task for the
members of this Board as they must determine whether or not the specific
requirements are met. The town
established its Zoning by-laws in an effort to prevent overcrowding of the land
and to avoid undue concentration of population and the Board members are
meticulous in their efforts to make sure that this goal is met.
As 2004 comes to a close the Board looks forward to a new
year bringing growth and development for keeping East Longmeadow the great
community it has been in the past. The
members recognize and thank their Administrator, Robyn
Macdonald, for her dedication and contribution throughout the
year. The members thank the Board of Selectmen for their continued support.
