To Board of Health:

I became the Animal Control Officer in August of 2008. Jessica O’Brian is still the alternate officer and we can both be reached by calling the East Longmeadow Police Department.

Since I came on the job only one dog has had to be quarantined. This was after a dog bite, and is part of an ongoing investigation.

Two dogs were removed from the custody of their owner when it was found she was unfit to keep animals. Both were adopted out.

Several phone calls were received concerning nuisance barking, leash laws, and the cleaning up after dogs. Letters were sent out to the offending parties that included copies of the town by-laws.

All strays that were picked up were kept at Porter Road Pet Care. Most were claimed by there owners. Two were placed in adoption centers and four others found permanent homes.

I would like to extend my thanks to Porter Road Pet Care for their generosity and kind hearts. I would like to thank Marty Lee Caramonte for her guidance. And last but not least, Pound Hounds Inc. for helping with veterinarian and kennel fees as well as helping place dogs in good homes.

Thank You,

Dawn Herbele
