[ARCHIVED] Cancelation of Fire Department's September 11th Candlelight Vigil

In keeping with Governor Baker’s August 7th revised order regulating gatherings, more specifically restricting outdoor gatherings to no more than 50 persons, the East Longmeadow Fire Department has decided to cancel this year’s September 11th Candlelight Vigil. This event has been held annually on September 11th to remember the tragic events that unfolded on September 11, 2001 when nearly 3,000 people, including 343 New York City firefighters, 23 New York City police officers, 37 Port Authority police officers and emergency medical personnel were killed in the terrorist attacks on our country. Typically, this event has over 100 people in attendance.

We ask that you remember in your own way those lives lost and those still suffering. We are planning, if restrictions are lifted, to hold the vigil in 2021.
