Board of Health
The primary concern of the Board of Health is ensuring the safety, well being, and public health of the citizens of East Longmeadow.
The Board of Health is responsible for overseeing development of health policies and regulations, food inspections, waste disposal issues, tobacco control, issuance of licenses, and animal control. Additionally, the Board of Health plays an integral role in Emergency Planning.
One vacant position
Karen Robitaille, BSN, RN, NCSN, has been the Director of Health and Safety for the Northampton Public Schools since 2006. Additionally, she serves as the Program Director for the Northampton Prevention Coalition, which is federally funded to reduce youth substance use in the City of Northampton. Prior to her current position, Karen has worked as a school nurse, health educator and camp nurse since 1997, and spent her earlier career working in inpatient adult medical-surgical and pediatric units, as well as in pediatric home care. She is a 1991 graduate of Fitchburg State University and currently attends the MSN/MBA Nursing and Health Services Management program at Elms College. Karen serves on a variety of boards and committees related to the health and well-being of young people, including Hampshire HOPE (Heroin and Opioid Prevention & Education Coalition) and the Healthy Communities Committee of Cooley-Dickinson Hospital, and is a member of the 2010 cohort of the Western Mass Women’s Fund Leadership Institute for Political Impact.
